The second day of the trip of the Association of Licensed Tourist Guides -Athens was about the craftsman - villages and included a visit in a winery in Zitsa, a village just 27 klm fron Ioannina. It is known for its wine and we tried 4 different wines and tsipouro. And it was only 10.30 in the morning...
But Epirus is cold and humid at this time of the year. It's a good solution to warm ourselves.
Afterwards we drive over mountains and rivers and we visited the monastery of Panagia Molyvdoskepasti, 20 klm from Konitsa and just 400 klm from the borders between Greece and Albania.
It's a masterpiece of architecture besides the beautiful nature, surrounding the place and it is still the cultural, financial and spiritual center of the area.
After this visit we had free time in Konitsa for food, relaxation and pictures.
The day ended in Pyrsogianni, on the E. slopes of Grammos mountain, in 800 m. altitude. It's located in a thick forest of oak trees and the the view from there is impressive.
There Mihalis Batskalis, the mayor of the community welcomed us and he guided us to two churches.
You cannot talk about Epurus, without mentioning the pride, the "koudaraious". That's the name of the local craftsmen, who built mainly stone bridges, churches, public buildings and houses not only in Greece, but the whole Balkan peninsula!
That's how our day ended. Even though we were tired we were satisfied from the whole day and curious about the adventures of the following...
We thank everyone from the bottom of our heart!
